Sangjun’s new media installation ‘blind film’ opens at New Media Gallery in Jack Straw Cultural Center in Seattle.

blind film comprises a series of new media installations involving a real-time composition of the kinetic system and digital interface that attempts to reconfigure familiar subjects that constantly change and repeat in the everyday life but at times come to us like unrefined feelings and traces.

Sangjun’s collaborative project ‘nevertheless’ showcase at Laboratory Residency in Spokane WA.

Partners Through Art Adaptations company: Choreographer Karla Parbon, dancers Brooke Grissom and Melanie S Williams

nevertheless (2017) is a dance performance combining modern choreographies and improvisation with real-time interfaces, smartphones, and data visualizations. Influenced by common characteristics of a young generation, it examines the existential crisis of the millennial generation, portrayed through the lens of smartphones and selfies.

Sangjun’s site-specific project ‘untitled’ is part of “The Clouds in Rapids” exhibition at SEA Foundation in Tilburg, Netherlands. SangJun walked a route through the city and monitored it in GPS. Afterwards, he revisited the journey through Google Streetview. Each frame of the walk is compressed and was blended into a video, subtly shifting and visualising the walk for the viewer. Notes taken by Jun during the walk are inserted in the video, occurring and disappearing on the rhythm of Rapid Eye Movement Data retrieved from the artist himself. During the exhibition ‘A Cloud in Rapids’ SangJun shows a 2-channel video installation with 4 frames, depicting the route on a map.
