reading 3-3 begins with a single instruction: draw a shape made of three lines with three intersections. Anonymous participants responded through a web interface, and every submission followed the same rule while arriving at a different form.
I hand-drew 100 anonymous submissions on a 30 × 30 in. canvas, extending each line across the surface so that the individual shapes overlap into one dense field.
The instruction is minimal enough that anyone can follow it, and open enough that no two people read it the same way. Gathered together, the drawings show how a single shared structure is read differently by each hand.
