Exhibited: Festival for Applied Acoustics, Cologne (2011)
interference was installed in a former cinema complex in Cologne. Inside the dark theater, a projected strip of light responds to the sound of a radio receiver. At the entrance, a webcam watches the curtain. While the curtain stays closed, the room fills with loud noise. When someone pushes the curtain aside and enters, the noise fades and the radio becomes audible, as if the visitor had tuned the room simply by arriving.
Arrival itself becomes the signal. Each entrance clears the interference for a moment, and each closing of the curtain lets it return.
