Generative video
Found YouTube videos of films by Andrei Tarkovsky

looper is a series of generative videos built from material found on YouTube. Each video takes footage that already circulates online and reorganizes its time, through looping, fragmenting, or drifting out of step, so that familiar images reveal structures that ordinary viewing passes over.

looper (Mirror)
Granular synthesis applied to a film by Andrei Tarkovsky. The system breaks the footage and its sound into small grains and loops them, recomposing fragments of shots into continuous, shifting sequences. Tarkovsky’s cinema is built on long takes and slowly unfolding time; here that duration is cut into fragments and set in motion again, so the films’ time stutters, repeats, and recombines.

looper (O Sole Mio)
Many YouTube performances of “O Sole Mio,” by singers of different backgrounds and genres, begin together in sync. As the song continues, they slowly drift apart. What first sounds like one song gradually separates into many, and the tropes and genre conventions each version carries become audible and visible in the gaps between them.
