Collaborative performance with Joseph Blake, University of Washington Dance Department
Grand piano, metal hook, rubber bands, fishing wire, real-time acoustic sonification
Performed at the University of Washington, Seattle
Unstring explores sound as a tactile and spatial phenomenon through the interaction between a dancer and a deconstructed piano. Physical tension, vibration, and resonance become the material of performance as the dancer manipulates metal hooks, fishing wire, and rubber bands connected to the piano strings. Each gesture produces direct sonic and visual feedback, transforming movement into an acoustic field of relation. The work uses mechanical resonance itself as a real-time interface, revealing sound as an extension of touch and presence. This collaboration between choreography and acoustic design marks an early stage in my investigation of perceptual systems where technology, environment, and embodiment merge into a single field of awareness.
